On Tuesday nights and the Fourth of July, you will definitely want to see the fireworks display at Shelter Cove Harbour . Shelter Cove is just maybe a mile down 278 (go left from the resort - Shelter Cove is on the right). BUT WAIT!!!! you don't need to GO to Shelter Cove to see them. In fact, you don't even need to leave our resort! You can have a front row seat right at our beach! Our resort is the only oceanside resort on the island that you can see the fireworks from and believe me, they are spectacular! You can view them along our boardwalk too but the best seat in the house (or on the beach I should say) is to go down to our beach and turn to the left. Walk up the beach towards the Folly (where the rocks are) until you have a clear view of the rooftops of the Hilton Head Resort buildings . Just above the rooftops is where you will see the fireworks! ( Don't forget to take the beach chairs and flashlight for the walk back.)
Enjoy putt-putt golf for the whole family at this Pirate themed course. Located on Highway 278. 843-686-4001
Every evening (Sunday thru Friday), under the Liberty Oak Tree in Harbourtown, young and old will be entertained with Gregg’s summer concerts. For over 25 years, Gregg has entertained the young and young at heart with his silly games, sing-a-longs and just some great fun stuff. The show is different each night. Call (843) 671-3590 for more information.
Starting around the end of March and running thru the summer , Jinny (the owner of the cafe) invites children of all ages to a "kid’s night out" on Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 8:45 (parent’s optional). Offering a hands-on pottery painting experience for the munchkins, they’ll have pizza, dessert and loads of fun creating their very own hand painted pottery. When I asked what the age requirements were, Jinny said there were none – but only asked that the kiddos be potty trained and not prone to "separation anxiety" (probably a plus for the parents too but by mid-week, a couple hours with out the munchkins might be a welcome reprieve.) The cost for this fun , creative 2 hour pottery painting experience is only $35 per child and the pottery masterpiece the child paints can be picked up on Friday – just in time before your week ends. The Art Caf’e is located in Coligny Plaza. Call Jinny at 843-785-5525 for more info.
It's mid-January in our "mild" winter climate along the coast of SC yet I am soooooo wishing it were already the middle of the summer. Yesterday, I spoke with some guests who are from Michigan and learned they were to get ANOTHER 6 inches of snow last night. Six MORE inches? yikes! Warm sand between my toes ( and every other crevise it gets into) , sprays of salt water, the ever nostalgic scent of "tan, don't burn" sunscreen, glistening bodies (aka sweaty) and my ever favorite flip-flops.....yea , THAT is what I'm longing for. Ahhhhh... paradise! Not a cold weather creature here by any degree - particularly when the degrees drop below 70.
My intentions for this blog is to share with you, things we have learned that may help make your stay on the island more enjoyable (either thru our own experience or from other sources) . Where to go, what to do, insider "tips", restaurants to try (or not), shopping, site-seeing......really just anything " islandish" is what I'll try to concentrate on and hopefully, in doing so, bring some enjoyment and humor along the way. It'll be a work in progress so be sure to check it out occasionally and see if you can relate......or better yet, email me if you have suggestions for things to post about, comments or even criticisms (hopefully constructive). But heads up: Literary prowess is not my forte . :)
